Via Doctor of Credit, you may be able to earn 2,500 bonus Starwood points for adding an authorized user who meets minimum spending requirements to your AMEX Starwood personal or small business card.

Some folks received an email with the offer, so it’s likely targeted.  But it could be worth checking your account to see if you qualify, especially if you need an easy way to top-off your Starwood account.

Here’s more about this deal.

Through December 31, 2016, you can earn 2,500 bonus Starwood points when you add an authorized user to your AMEX Starwood card.  To qualify for the bonus, the authorized user must spend $1,000+ on the card within the first 3 months of being added to your account.

When you sign-in to your AMEX Starwood account with the promotional link, you will NOT see anything about earning bonus points.  So it might be worth chatting with AMEX to verify you qualify for the bonus.

This deal is likely targeted, but it could be worth a try.  Because it only takes ~2 minutes to add an authorized user to your account.

That said, you’ll be asked for the authorized user’s social security number, so you can’t add your cat. 😉  And the new card WILL count against Chase’s 5/24 rule for the authorized user.

Is It Worth It?

2,500 Starwood points are more than enough for a weekend night at a Starwood Category 1 hotel.  Or, you could transfer 2,500 Starwood points to Marriott and get 7,500 Marriott points.  Because Starwood points transfer to Marriott points at a 1:3 ratio.

7,500 Marriott points is enough for a free night at a Marriott Category 1 hotel.

But this deal probably isn’t worth it for most folks, especially if your authorized user has Chase cards they plan to apply for.

Bottom Line

Through December 31, 2016, you can earn 2,500 bonus Starwood points for adding an authorized user who meets minimum spending requirements to your AMEX Starwood personal or small business card.

This deal is likely targeted.  But it’s worth trying, because it only takes a few minutes.

Let me know if you’re targeted for the deal!
