Lyn blogs about Southwest at Go To Travel Gal and offers a free guide on how to quickly earn the Southwest Companion Pass.  She’s found a great deal that allows you to earn a bunch of Southwest point.  And I asked her to share with you.

Lyn:   Want more Southwest points?  Who doesn’t?!

Southwest currently has a rare deal – that’s a bit hidden – where you can earn up to 8,750 Southwest bonus points good for free travel on the airline when you buy flowers through 1800Flowers.com.

Southwest Valentines Day Promotion 2017

The Southwest Valentine’s Day Promotion Lets You Earn up to 8750 Bonus Southwest Points

Here are the details!

When you enter your Southwest Rapid Rewards number and promotion code “SW34“, you can earn 1,750 bonus Southwest points per minimum $34.99 order.  The deal is good through February 15, 2017.

The offer lets you to make 5 different orders per Southwest loyalty account, earning 1,750 points per order or up to a total of 8,750 Southwest points.

These points DO NOT qualify for the Southwest Companion Pass, an amazing deal that lets 1 person fly (nearly) free with you for up to 2 years.  But the points DO qualify for free travel on Southwest.

How Much Are 8,750 Southwest Points Worth?

Southwest points do not have a set value, but typically average out to be ~1.43 cents.  That would make 8,750 points worth ~$125. There are plenty of round-trip routes on Southwest for at or below that price (or fewer than 9,000 points).  And your points can sometimes be worth more, especially if you have the Companion Pass!

Buy Flowers and Get Free Southwest Flights! But It’s Only a Good Deal If You Wanted to Purchase Flowers Anyway

Purchasing 8,750 points directly through Southwest would cost you ~$233, while this promotion would cost you ~$175 if you purchased 5 items for ~$35 each.  So it’s a better deal than buying points directly.  But not necessarily something you’d want to do unless you are planning to buy flowers anyway.

How to Get the Deal

Southwest, for some reason, has hidden this promotion so it’s not widely visible.  For example, you won’t find it on the Southwest Rapid Rewards Shopping Portal, because the deal does not work by having you click through from the portal, which tracks your browser cookies to award you points.

Instead, I found the Southwest Valentine’s Day promotion when I was logged into Southwest.com on the My Account page as a side promotion.  But there is a link that will work for everyone whether or not you find the promotion within your account.  Just follow these steps:

  • Click through the promotion page.
  • Make your selection and add it to your cart.
  • Add the delivery address and person’s name along with a message.
  • Enter your Southwest Rapid Rewards number upon checkout in the Membership Box, as well as promotion code “SW34“. This will be under Payment Details on the last screen before checkout AFTER you have entered your address and delivery date.

Alternately, you can place your order by calling 1-800-356-9377 and providing your Southwest Rapid Rewards account number and “SW34” promo code.

You could also pay for the order using your Southwest Rapid Rewards Chase card to earn another point per dollar spent!

The $34.99 minimum does NOT include shipping and service charges or taxes.

What Can I Purchase for $34.99?

If you want to stick to the minimum amount required to earn your Southwest bonus points, we only found 1 option for $34.99:   a set of a dozen different colored roses in a gift box.  There is also a Truffles Heart box or a Teddy Bear with Chocolate-Covered Strawberries – both for $49.99.
