If you’ve been dreaming of taking a trip to Europe, your Chase Ultimate Rewards points and United Airlines miles will now be easier to use!

In 2016, United Airlines and Brussels Airlines are adding new non-stop flights to Brussels!  And Paris is a short train ride away.

This adds to the great news I shared with you about British Airways’ partner, Air Berlin adding more flights to places like Copenhagen and Budapest.

United Airlines is adding a 2nd non-stop daily flight from Newark to Brussels, Belgium.  This new service will run from May 5, 2016, to October 28, 2016.

Plus, Star Alliance partner Brussels Airlines will have 5 new flights from Toronto to Brussels starting April 2016.

Here’s a look at how many miles you’ll need for a round-trip United Airlines flight to Brussels and other European cities:

  • 60,000 United Airlines miles for a coach flight to Europe
  • 115,000 United Airlines miles for a Business Class flight to Europe
  • 160,000 United Airlines miles for a First Class flight to Europe

Coach flights to Europe cost the same amount of miles on partners like Brussels Airlines, but you’ll need more miles for Business Class and First Class award flights:

  • 140,000 United Airlines miles for a round-trip Business Class flight to Europe
  • 220,000 United Airlines miles for a round-trip First Class flight to Europe

In Brussels you can visit the elaborate Grand Place, take a short trip to nearby Antwerp – the diamond capital of the world, or ride bikes around rural Belgium to the renowned Trappist breweries.

You might also explore the nearby town of Bruges.  It’s popular with tourists for its historic houses, picturesque canals, and chocolate shops.

Brussels is a great place to start your European adventure because it’s an easy train ride to other major cities such as:

  • Amsterdam
  • Cologne, Germany
  • Paris

Or consider booking cheap paid flights on 1 of Europe’s budget airlines to other destinations.

There are lots of ways to earn United Airlines miles for your trip to Brussels.

Transfer Your Chase Ultimate Rewards Points to United Airlines for Your Flight to Brussels

The sign-up bonus on the Chase Sapphire Preferred card recently increased to 50,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points when you spend $4,000 on purchases within the 1st 3 months of opening your account.

You can transfer the Chase Ultimate Rewards points you earn with this card to United Airlines at a 1:1 ratio and the points will typically post your account instantly.

This is the highest bonus I’ve ever seen on Chase Sapphire Preferred card.  And I love earning Chase Ultimate Rewards points because they’re flexible.  You can transfer your points to United Airlines or other partners like British Airways, Ritz-Carlton, or Hyatt.

Stay for Free!

You can use your United Airlines miles to cover the cost of your flight and then use your hotel points to stay for free!

Spirit Airlines Is Also Adding More Flights

United Airlines and Brussels Airlines aren’t the only ones increasing their service in 2016.  It isn’t to Europe, but Spirit Airlines is also adding new flights starting April 21, 2016, from Washington, DC (Baltimore) to:

  • Boston non-stop twice daily starting April 21, 2016
  • Detroit daily starting April 21, 2016
  • Orlando non-stop daily starting January 7, 2016

I don’t fly Spirit Airlines.  But I love competition, because it brings down prices and encourages better service.

I’ll stick to Southwest because you get 2 free checked bags and if your plans change you can easily cancel or change your flight without penalty.

And when you earn the Southwest Companion Pass, a friend can join you for (almost) free for up to 2 years!

The Southwest Companion Pass Makes Flying Twice as Nice!

Bottom Line

Next year, United Airlines and their partner, Brussels Airlines, are adding new flights to Brussels.  This means you’ll have more ways to use your United Airlines miles.

Remember, Chase Ultimate Rewards points transfer to United Airlines when you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Ink Plus, or Ink Bold (no longer available) card!

There are a lot of things to do in Brussels.  And it’s a great jumping off point for visiting the rest of Europe!

If you need miles for your trip, check out my post on all the ways to earn United Airlines miles.  I like to transfer the Chase Ultimate Rewards points I earn with cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred card to United Airlines.

Spirit Airlines will also have new flights in 2016 from Washington, DC (Baltimore) to Boston, Detroit, and Orlando.

I don’t fly Spirit Airlines, but this is still fantastic news because more competition encourages airlines to provide us with better service and lower prices!
