It’s still too soon to activate the bonus for Amazon. But you can activate your bonus for restaurants, and earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in spending from July 1 to September 30, 2017!

You can get up to $75 cash back each quarter on bonus categories with your Discover it card.
Discover’s 5X category starting July 1, 2017, will be restaurants! That’s great news, because lots of folks spend money at restaurants anyway, especially while traveling.
You can activate the bonus right now for spending from July 1 through September 30, 2017.
5% Can Add Up Quickly. You Can Earn Up to $75 Back in the 3rd Quarter of 2017
And from October 1 to December 31, 2017, you’ll earn 5% back at Amazon. Just in time for the holiday season!

The Discover it card is great for folks who like cash back. And it’s a no annual fee card with NO foreign transaction fees.
I like cash back, but I’d rather earn flexible points, like Chase Ultimate Rewards. So I prefer the Chase Freedom, which also has rotating 5X bonus categories.
You can redeem those points for 5% cash back, or transfer them to airline and hotel partners if you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve, Ink Business Preferred, Ink Business Cash, Chase Ink Plus (no longer available), or Chase Ink Bold (no longer available).
However, if you’re a new Discover it cardmember, Discover will match the cash back you’ve earned after the 12th billing cycle. So any purchases you made in the 5% bonus categories will get you 10% cash back! That’s hard to beat.

It’s still too early to activate the Amazon deal, but you can activate the restaurant category for purchases made between July 1 and September 30, 2017.
