Daraius: We’ve got a great team at Million Mile Secrets helping with posts. But I miss writing as much as I did in the old days! So here I am writing about stuff that I really care about. And which isn’t all miles-and-points related.
Be like the sky. The sky is always the sky, whether there are clouds or no clouds. – Mooji
Meditating shows me that it is possible to observe thoughts and emotions without trying to grab onto them.
Of course, it is very hard to do continuously. And especially when I’m triggered, and I’m in emotionally charged situations.
I Am the Sky, My Emotions Are Passing Clouds
But being perfect is not the goal. My learning is that there are times when I can choose not to act on a thought or emotion and just watch them float away.
That’s why I was inspired by the way Mooji explains that all sensations, time, space, ideas, emotions, thoughts, etc. are just like clouds passing through the sky.
The sky doesn’t get upset or angry or scared as the clouds pass through it. Nothing that passes through the sky changes the essential nature of the sky.
Often, I mistake the clouds (thoughts or emotions) to be “me.” And I go down the rabbit hole of creating unneeded suffering (anxiety, sadness, anger etc) for myself.
And I feel relieved to know that while it may feel that the thoughts and emotions are mine, in reality they just arise and pass.
Like clouds through the sky. I find this analogy very easy to relate to!
Bottom Line
Like clouds floating through the sky don’t change the nature of the sky, thoughts and emotions passing though my mind don’t change my essential nature.
Instead of being caught in the storm clouds, I can choose to watch them drift away. Because I am the sky, not the clouds.
