Vancouver is known for its amazing restaurants, gorgeous scenery, and nearby skiing, snowboarding, and other outdoor activities.
Via One Mile at a Time, you can save Big Money at participating Vancouver, Canada, hotels until February 29, 2016 with the newest beVancouver American Express promotion!
This is perfect for a quick winter getaway to a terrific city! (I’ll show you how to fly with miles & points.)
I’ll explain how the deal works. And how to get Big Travel whether you want to splurge on luxury, have an amazing view, or travel with your family near shopping and dining.
What’s the Deal?

Book your room at 1 of 35 participating Vancouver hotels through the beVancouver website and stay before February 29, 2016. Depending on the hotel, you’ll earn a 50, 75, 100, or 125 (~$38 to ~$95) Canadian dollar AMEX prepaid gift card the 1st night of your stay.
And you’ll earn another 50 Canadian dollar (~$38) gift card for each subsequent night of the same stay! There appears to be no limit to the number of nights.
You can use your gift card for whatever you’d like, including room costs, hotel restaurants and services, or shopping and activities in Vancouver!

Stay at the Incredible Westin Bayshore and Save 100 Canadian Dollars (~$76) on Your 1st Night! It’s Right on the Harbour and Close to Terrific Restaurants and Shopping
However, you’re limited to 3 separate bookings per person for this deal.
Note: This is a 3rd-party booking, which means you shouldn’t earn points or have your elite status recognized. But readers report they’ve been able to add their loyalty program number with the hotel directly and still earn points and get perks!
Other Terms & Conditions
- Offer is limited-time although there’s no end date published
- Check-in on or before February 29, 2016 to get the deal
- All bookings are pre-paid, non-refundable and non-transferrable. They’re booked in Canadian dollars (so use a card that doesn’t add foreign transaction fees like the Chase Sapphire Preferred!)
While the terms say it’s a pre-paid booking, folks report you’re not actually charged until you check-out of the hotel. And they’ve been able to use the AMEX pre-paid gift card to cover part of the hotel cost!
Is This a Good Deal?
This could be an excellent deal, depending on the hotel and your timing. But don’t book unless your travel plans are firm, because you can’t get a refund!
Remember, Canada is a cheap destination for Americans right now because the Canadian dollar is weak against the US dollar. Currently, $1 is worth ~1.31 Canadian dollars.

You’ll Get Sweeping Views of the City, Coastal Mountains, and the Pacific Ocean From Your Balcony at the Empire Landmark Hotel

This hotel isn’t right downtown, but if you don’t mind staying off the beaten path a bit, it’s a bargain!
2. Residence Inn Vancouver Marriott Downtown
Stay right downtown close to shopping and restaurants at the Residence Inn Vancouver Marriott Downtown.
You’ll get a studio suite with 2 queen beds, a living / dining area, and a fully-equipped kitchen.
You’ll save ~$77 on a 1-night stay, which only costs ~$56 after the discount. And each night after costs ~$94, which is still a good deal!
This hotel could be a good deal for a family! There’s plenty of space to spread out.
3. Fairmont Hotel Vancouver
If you’re looking for a splurge, you could live like a king or queen for a night at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. It’s 1 of Canada’s grand railway hotels, and resembles a castle!
This hotel isn’t cheap, with rooms normally costing ~$350+ per night! With the discount, you’ll save 125 Canadian dollars (~$95) on your 1st night, and pay ~$246.
If you’re celebrating a special occasion like an anniversary or birthday, this could be a sweet deal.
Getting to Vancouver
1. Award Flights
If you live on the West Coast, you could fly to Vancouver on Alaska Airlines or American Airlines using British Airways Avios points for cheap!
Fly from Portland or Seattle for just 4,500 British Airways Avios points in coach each way (this price will increase to 7,500 British Airways Avios points on February 3, 2016).

Use British Airways Avios Points to Get to Vancouver Cheaply on Alaska Airlines and American Airlines
Folks in Los Angeles can get to Vancouver for 7,500 British Airways Avios points 1-way in coach. And from Dallas-Fort Worth or Phoenix, you’ll pay 10,000 British Airways Avios points.
Note: You can use British Airways Avios points to book award flights on Cathay Pacific between New York and Vancouver with no fuel surcharges!

Experience Cathay Pacific First Class – Consistently Rated 1 of the Best in the World – Without Leaving the Continent!
A round-trip flight in coach costs 25,000 British Airways Avios points plus ~$54. But if you want total luxury, you’ll pay 100,000 British Airways Avios points and the same taxes and fees for a First Class round-trip ticket.
That’d be a heck of a way to blow the entire bonus on the British Airways card!
This is an interesting option for folks who’ve always wanted to try Cathay Pacific’s excellent food and service.
You can also use miles and points to fly on other airlines from the US, including:
- Air Canada (transfer American Express Membership Rewards points)
- Delta (Transfer American Express Membership Rewards points or Starwood points)
- United Airlines (Transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points)
2. Paid Flights
Don’t forget to check for cheap paid tickets to Vancouver! Sometimes there are sales. See my posts on finding cheap flights using Google Flights and ITA Matrix to find the lowest prices.
Folks with the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink Plus, or (no longer offered) Chase Ink Bold can use their Chase Ultimate Rewards points at 1.25 cents each to book paid airfare through the Chase Ultimate Rewards Travel Portal.
There are no blackout dates and you’ll earn miles or points for your ticket, and sometimes it’s a much better deal!

Use Chase Ultimate Rewards Points for Paid Flights – It Can Be a Better Deal, and You Can Try Different Airlines Like WestJet (a Fun Canadian Airline, Much Like Southwest)
Or consider using Citi ThankYou points to book paid airfare through the Citi ThankYou Travel Center. If you have the Citi Prestige, your points are worth 1.6 cents each on American Airlines and their codeshare partners, or 1.33 cents each on other airlines.
Folks with the Citi ThankYou Premier can use their points at a rate of 1.25 cents per point toward paid tickets.
Remember, Citi Prestige cardholders can use their annual $250 airline statement credit toward paid airfare, too!
3. Other Options
Don’t forget Amtrak! You can take the Cascades train between Vancouver and Seattle, Tacoma, Portland, Salem, and Eugene for just 1,500 Amtrak points each way in coach. The views are apparently incredible.
Keep in mind, Amtrak will no longer be a Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer partner after December 7, 2015. And their award chart is changing beginning January 24, 2016.

The Cascades Train Is an Amtrak “Special Route,” Which Means 1-Way Tickets Cost Just 1,500 Amtrak Points in Coach
Folks in Seattle have even more options with ferries, floatplanes, and buses! It could make for an interesting trip!
Bottom Line
With the beVancouver American Express promotion, you’ll earn a 50 to 125 Canadian dollar (~$38 to ~$95) AMEX prepaid gift card on the 1st night of your stay at 35 participating Vancouver hotels.
And you’ll earn a 50 Canadian dollar (~$38) gift card each subsequent night! This deal is valid for stays through February 29, 2016, but book soon because it’s a limited-time offer.
Chain and independent hotels are included at all price levels. There are some very good deals!
Remember, it’s easy to get to Vancouver with miles & points, especially from the West Coast. This could be your perfect excuse for a ski getaway or foodie weekend in a beautiful city.
Let me know if you plan a trip to Vancouver!
